Tala Girls Day Out

Some days a girl just have to get out a bit. Nothing better than to hop in your trike and go...

Inbetween arranging kids and husbands, Kim and I finally left for Tala Game reserve at about 11:00. We took the scenic route over Kim's house and although there was a bit of turbulence over Valley of a 1000 hills, the flight was stunning!

As we got closer and closer to Tala, we still had no runway in sight, but Geoff Dyer from Light Flight gave us pointers and we finally figured out that the "runway" was nothing other than the windy 4x4 track on the hill.

A very friendly young Game Ranger took us for about a 1hr game drive. The middle of the day we saw mostly very lazy animals, including ourselves

The wild-life in this reserve is really amazing though, we saw Giraffe, Hippo, Ostriches, Rhino, Wildebeest, Bless-buck, Njala, Impala, a Duiker, numerous birds and the flame-coloured Aloe flowers added additional beauty.

After a sumptious lunch, which included strong coffee to counter the effect of the weight of our tummies on our eye-lids, we took another little game-drive back to where CMA was waiting for us to board. The sun was now setting lazily in the West, and it was very tempting to camp under our wing for the night.

On our way back, a Skyjeep, ZU-ZEN, flew formation with us for a while. It was nice to share the sky with a fellow pilot in such glorious conditions.

The sun was setting slowly over Inanda Dam, and with a thick inversion, everything quite dreamlike, and very smooth.

We were back at La Mercy only 1hr40min flying time after taking off there in the morning, and decided to join David at the coastline for just a couple more minutes of fun.

When we eventually turned onto finals, the sun was just dipping behind the mountains.

Another day's magic lingering in our dreams...
