Fly-Aways

Starting Sunday, 4th November, La Mercy will be organising regular fly-aways to various places. Some are breakfast trips, some will be all morning, and others will be weekend trips or longer.

If you are interested in joining us on any of these flights, feel free to call or email us.

In the new year we are planning trips ranging from weekends to week-long excursions to places like the Wild Coast / Himeville Gliding Club / Kosi-Bay / Drakensberg / down the Orange River from Aliwal North to Upington and a coastal one-way flight to Cape Town (return trip by train) and the usual breakfast runs on a regular basis.

New Arrivals

Juan and Toini joined our School in August this year. Juan is an instructor. He assists us with instruction, airfield and training school management. His lovely friend and companion Toini has been a great asset too and can be found under the Big Tree, always with a smile and a helping hand.

Moya (picture right) is the latest addition to the man-birds at La Mercy Airfield. He is the local plumber, gardener and quad-rider and will probably get his wings before his mother.

Rainbow Aircraft - Cheetah

Mike Blyth will also be presenting a slide show of his and Olivier's Flight around the world in Trikes at our annual Party over the same weekend

Vladimir Chechin came down in October to do Sea-Level tests in the all new Cheetah (pictured left), but instead spent a lot of time under the big tree drinking copious amounts of coffee.

For those of you that are interested, the Cheetah will be back for a formal presentation on the 8th and 9th of December. Introductory flights will be available.

Pre-Flights

In a more serious vein, please take your pre-flights seriously. These flying wires (pictured left) were on a Microlight which flew regularly out of La Mercy Airfield.

This is just one of the serious defects I picked up during my pre-flight of this Trike. The owner was oblivious.
